Celebrating Black History Month in 2014

modern bells of the newest age.
herald the trumpet’s call.
justice lives
in every heart

hope-filled spirit

painted multi-hued palette
glimmering, glowing, crowned prestige
morning sun in Harlem historic hipness

Georgia peach trees, academic halls

dignity’s gospel
pearled glistening Caribbean aqua waters
Chicago steely workboots

Mississippi songs,

railroads _+_+_+_+_ John Henry _+_+_+
California’s orange groves, home from the war to bungalows of desires

lined streets

of fame

proving over and over and over

untinged ebony grace
of the turning tide.
An unstoppable tsunami

climbing all the way

to the

White House.

Journal prompt: How do you celebrate African American culture? Do you have favorite famous writers, scientists, politicians and others who contribute to society? What about unsung heroes and everyday people?

I made it this far and plan to keep going. I believe nature heals the soul. I love to journal, to write, do art, and music. I'm not afraid to tackle tough subjects. Solar-powered & drive hybrid. Trying to do my part. Earned my BA at 53. And, I believe, it's never too late to have a happy childhood.
