The Spinal Connection: Day 10 Blog Challenge

Day 10, blog challenge. There’s the work you, home you, café you, and hospital you, friends you and strangers you. In this week’s writing challenge, tell us about a time when two or more of your “yous” ran into each other.

Discussion: I wanted to write about what connects it all. Please excuse the cheese. This is a rough, rough draft. :0

It’s all the same spine

Vertebrae attached to nerves and brain —

She fell down the stairs, thump thump in third grade

Plummeting, descending in the slippery school on a blustery day.

The pain caused her to crumple and faint right there in the hallway.

It’s all the same spine,

Column attached to head and hands of the girl —

Who trotted horses, skated skinned knees, attempting to excel,

She flew over the ears of a stopped, stubborn mare, all landing in a heap,

She revived to stand and dust herself, after the leap.

It’s all the same spine,

Axis of muscle and bone attached to the young lady

Who read and danced, gave birth to two babies,

She hauled water, chopped wood, and rose to work each day

Finally changing lanes to drive the good red road way.

It’s all the same spine

Attached to marrow and lumbar region

She poured over textbooks, wrote papers and survived the scene,

A passenger in a vehicle banged up from behind

Year in, year out, she persevered and yelled, never mind!

It’s all the same spine now and forever,

Sinews and surface of the thoracic.

She sings, collecting the words of her life among others

A seeker, a finder, sometimes the portrait-maker,

She serves faithful companions all the same, until God takes her.

I made it this far and plan to keep going. I believe nature heals the soul. I love to journal, to write, do art, and music. I'm not afraid to tackle tough subjects. Solar-powered & drive hybrid. Trying to do my part. Earned my BA at 53. And, I believe, it's never too late to have a happy childhood.

    1. Thank you-appreciate the feedback. Going to read your blog right now. I just read you have returned to Cleveland after living in Chicago. How do you like it? Am looking forward to visiting the Cleveland Art Museum again!
